Waited about 20 minutes in line, but totally worth it! The chicken was incredibly tender and the sauce was perfectly balanced — absolutely amazing with rice. The value is unbeatable. I'd suggest going before 11am to avoid the lunch rush. Only downside is there's no air conditioning, so expect to sweat a bit in the Singapore heat!
The broth had a rich peppery kick — so warming and comforting. The pork ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. You have to order the fried dough sticks and dip them in the soup — absolutely delicious. It was pretty reasonable. Though the portion could be a bit bigger; hungry guys might need extra rice.
Went to Lau Pa Sat in the evening — the atmosphere along the satay street was amazing! Ordered 10 chicken and 10 mutton satay sticks, and the peanut sauce was so fragrant. Paired with an ice-cold Tiger beer, it was a perfect evening. Prices were reasonable too. Highly recommend going around 6–7pm when the sky changes colour — great for photos.
Perfect breakfast spot! The kaya toast was thin and crispy, and the kaya jam was just the right sweetness. The soft-boiled eggs are a must — add soy sauce and pepper, then stir and dip the toast in. A cup of Kopi O is very affordable. Cheaper than eating at the school canteen! Starting every morning here before class gives me so much joy.
The cheapest Michelin star in the world! The soya sauce chicken rice is insanely good. The chicken is well-marinated and the sauce mixed with rice — I could eat three bowls. The char siu is also highly recommended, with the perfect balance of lean and fatty meat. The only issue is the crazy long queue. Go on a weekday afternoon; forget about weekends. After eating, you can stroll around Chinatown — two birds with one stone.
Came here with friends for seafood BBQ — ordered black pepper crab, grilled prawns, and fried clams. The crab was very fresh and the sauce was flavourful. It was really affordable for Singapore. The setting is typical hawker-style, but that's the right vibe for eating seafood. Just a heads up — there are lots of tourists here, so check prices before ordering.
